T. Woodward: London. 1731 8 x 5.5, gilt ruled full leather with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine, 472+ index. Leather cracking, chipping, some peeling, darkened in some areas, a bit shelfworn, corners worn, rebacked with most of original spine present, page edges spotted, top page edge darkened, replacement endpapers, LACKING TITLE PAGE (starts with the dedication page), spotting and staining but mainly near front and rear, light creasing and waviness, nice woodcut vignettes on first page of chapters. Trained to be a minister despite his inclination to medicine, he later studied and became a doctor in 1728. He applied for a patent for "a tincture to preserve the blood from dizziness and a saline scorbutic acrimony." FIRST ED. SWAF.
