Drinking glass form the E. Kern Brewing Co.

(Detroit) nd (1890s?) Clear drinking glass with white lettering and design, 4.25 high x 2.25 diameter, very good condition. On the glass "E. Kern Brewing Co. (in script) Detroit, Mich." Above the lettering is a quarter moon with the word "Purity" inside it, two heads of barley and a hop flower and leaf along the side, inside the arc is the letter K with a bird with extended wings at a downward angle on top of it, on either side of the bird are the words "trade" and "mark." Not listed in Blum's book, "Brewed in Detroit: Breweries and Beers since 1830," the only Kern listed is the Kern Brewery in Port Huron. Also not found in the Detroit city directories of 1880s - 1920s. Possible connection is that E. Kern could be Ernst Kern (father or son) of Ernst Kern Dry Goods, a well-known department store in downtown Detroit, but documentation has not been lcoated to make this link. Scarce.
