Color engravings, 9 x 6.5, decorative stamped leather with gilt lettering and decorations, marbled edges, vii - xi, 15-576 pp. Covers worn and rubbed, front cover detached and rear is almost detached, shelfworn, corners bumped and worn, spine cover torn and missing small pieces, contemporary ink name and date, free front endpaper through title page detached, marbling faded scattered foxing, soiling, creased corners, tears, lacking 18 pages with no loss of text, most likely these are illustrations (some of the illustrations in this book are part of the pagination and some are not), there are 25 remaining illustrations (incl. frontis and title page vignette) plus four maps. NUC calls for 21 incl frontis. "Enlarged Edition." First published in 1851 under the title "Historical Collections of The Great West."
