GENERAL STORE LEDGER (OF S.F. KENNEDY?).

Grattan, MI January 1872 to 12.5 x 8.5, leather over boards with black leather spine labels, 513 pp. Covers well worn, rubbed, scuffed, scratched, soiled, faded, corners bumped and worn and leather torn and worn off, edges of spine worn, labels chipped and peeling, ink name (of S.F. Kennedy) written several times on free front endpaper, tears, soiling, light staining and creasing, pages 67-72 removed, 172-173 are blank and 343-345 are stuck together (on purpose? Note on p. 345 says "April Fool" and date is Oct. 21). Fairly basic contents, nothing really frivolous. Various types of cloth, buttons, shawls, parasols, shoes, acct. books, flour, spices, oysters, herring, vinegar for canning, whisky, garden seeds, moskito (sic) net, kerosene, machine oil, close (sic) basket, crochet needles, goggles and much, much more. Grattan was in Kent County, 150 miles northwest of Detroit. In 1864, the population was 1,200 with 175 farms.
