Covers worn, creased, soiled, stained, torn, missing small pieces, lacking approx half of spine cover and what is left is torn and chipped, staples rusty, creasing, tears, soiling. Many photos of the aftermath of the earthquake of April 18. There is one foldout photo in this issue and it is of Sara Bernhardt performing at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif, on May 17, 1906. Lots of advertisements, some of the businesses listing their temporary addresses. Articles on loss and resurrection, including one by Mayor Eugene Schmitz. An example of the spirit of the survivors is a sign attached to a destroyed building: "Schloss Crockery Crashed Not Crushed" with their new address of 371 Fifth St. Cover illust is of a bear standing over San Francisco chasing away an eagle.
