Ediburgh 1861 7 x 4.5, blind stamped cloth with gilt dec, 72 pp. Covers moderately worn, light rubbing, corners bumped and worn, spine tips bumped with a bit of wear, ink name and date (contemp?) , later bookplate, scattered foxing else good/very good. The author's object in writing this play "is to appeal to the mind and tender sympathy of the British public . . . To Me, in this enlightened age, it seems marvellous that such a system as slavery should exist for a day on any known portion of the globe." Characters in the play are a Georgian planter, his Overseer, a Favourite slave, several other slaves & various other personages. First Amer Ed.
