Scott, James L.

LINES: For Cousin William B. Stillson.

Marbledale, (CT) October 20, 1855. Three page MS poetic letter, on three sides of one blue, lined sheet 10 x 15.5" folded in half, folds, spotting wear else nice & neat. Scott (a Rev. James L. Scott appears in Litchfield CN listings around this time) pens advice in the form of charming, religious verse: "…Whate'er your sphere -- whatever your reward, Do well in all, and know you serve the Lord". There was a Seventh Day Baptist preacher named James L. Scott who wrote a book about his travels in the wilds of the Mid-West around this time, too.
