USGPO 1875. 11.75 x 9.25", 121pp, illus, three folding maps plus one plate illustrating fossils, ex-library with minimal markings, covers worn & scratched, spine torn, tips fraying, corner bumped & worn, e.ps. Lightly soiled, pencil names, ink lines through two sentences, printed note pasted to bottom of p. 15, a few edge tears, small tears on maps. Ludlow, who was an army captain and chief engineer for the Dakota Territory, was attached to the military expedition under the command of then-Lt. Col. George A. Custer. Ludlow & Custer would perish the year after this book was published.
