Ewing, James.

DOCUMENT SIGNED

1pg. Philadelphia, April 10, 1784. Partly printed document in which Treasurer David Rittenhouse is ordered to "Pay to Henry Swetzgan, private in the German Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line…three hundred pounds being one year's interest on his depreciation certificate, due the 10th day of April, 1783…." Bodly signed as vice-president of Council by Ewing, who was a Revolutionary War general. Countersigned by John Nicholson, who as a shady Pennsylvania state official who resigned all his state offices in 1794. He had been impeached but acquitted by the PA Legislature. At this time he was one of the wealthiest men in the country. He was sent to debtor's prison in 1800 after bad land speculation with Robert Morris. Minor tear at fold else nice. (Not signed by Rittenhouse).
